ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Two police helicopter pilots survive a scare in midair.The St. Louis Metro Air Support officers spoke with FOX 2 after a duck strike last week.It left the officers bloodied and took out much of their windshield. The duck was killed.It had been a routine night. The officer/pilots were on patrol. It was around 7:30 p.m. It had just gotten dark. They didn’t even see the danger coming.“We train for emergency procedures. We don’t necessarily train for a bird to come through the front windshield,” said St. Louis police pilot Bob Simons. “I kind of saw a flash out of my eye, the right side of my eye.”Then he felt a rush of incoming air. LINCOLN COUNTY, Mo. – The town of Silex is getting answers from the state and the Environmental Protection Agency about the city's water contamination.The Missouri Department of Natural Resources says the town's water system consistently tests above the standard limit for radium.“We had been using tap water, yes. So now, I don’t know what we’re going to do. We just talked about, I looked up some on the internet myself, and we talked about just putting a water softener in ourself," Kevin Creech, Lincoln County Moose Lodge administrator, said. He said his concern is for the members and their families who spend Friday nights at the Moose Lodge. “I just want to make sure I’m protecting them in any way I can. (KRON) -- Although it's October and fall season, the Bay Area has recorded warm temperatures this week as a heat advisory went into effect at 11 a.m. Thursday. Inland cities such as Concord and Livermore have recorded highs of 96 degrees and 94 degrees, respectively, according to the National Weather Service Bay Area.Half Moon Bay shattered a decade-old high temperature record on Thursday, the NWS said. Temperatures in the San Mateo County city reached 90 degrees -- the previous record was 82 degrees on this day in 2013.As of Thursday evening, the NWS said only Half Moon Bay was the only city in the region to break a record. Other notable highs include Vallejo, which reached 97 degrees. SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) -- A San Jose home daycare was ordered to shut down immediately on Wednesday in the wake of a tragedy that left two 1-year-old toddlers dead. Happy Happy Daycare's license to operate was suspended by officials from the Community Care Licensing Division of the California Department of Social Services. "You are prohibited from operating this child day care facility," officials wrote to Happy Happy Daycare's owners, Nina Fathizadeh and Shahin Shenas.The victims, Payton Cobb, 1, of Hollister, and Lillian Hanan, 1, of San Jose, drowned Monday morning after they fell into the daycare's backyard pool. A third child also fell into the pool, was rushed to a hospital, and survived.
